Economic Restructuring Committee

This committee's goal is to create an economically viable downtown Seymour. This is accomplished by researching the regional market and consumer trends to get a realistic picture of what market mix will work to create a vibrant downtown community.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting existing business owners in growing their businesses.
  • Attracting new investment in commercial and residential development.
  • Regular inventory of downtown properties to determine vacancy rates.
  • Regular tracking of jobs located in Downtown Seymour.
  • Regular tracking of housing units in Downtown Seymour.

Economic Reconstruction Projects

Facilitation between property owners and City of Seymour for Façade Grant project.

Create a business development incentive program for investment in Downtown Seymour, possibly in conjunction with the Business Academy being developed.

(Future) Explore initiative to increase second story residential units and occupancy.

Met with financial institutions resulting in three institutions offering low interest commercial loans to businesses participating in the façade grant study.

Completed an inventory of downtown businesses in February 2007.
