Revitalizing Our Community with the Main Street Approach
Throughout the nation, many communities are using the Main Street approach to revitalize their traditional commercial districts, bringing new life to downtown areas. Seymour Main Street coordinates with the national and state networks of Main Street programs for action and support on all levels.
- 1.
- Gathering a broad-based public/private support for the commercial district revitalization process, with strong support from both the public and private sectors.
- 2.
- Establishing vision and mission statements relevant to community conditions and to the local Main Street program's organizational stage.
- 3.
- Completing a Comprehensive Main Street Work Plan.
- 4.
- Active implementation of the Main Street Four Point Approach principles (Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotion and Organization).
- 5.
- Upholding a strong historic preservation ethic.
- 6.
- Establishing board of directors and committees for each of the Four Point principals.
- 7.
- Establishing an operating budget to fully support the Main Street program.
- 8.
- Having a paid, professional program manager on staff to oversee the local main street activities.
- 9.
- Continuous professional development training for staff and volunteers.
- 10.
- Reporting reinvestment, rehabilitating, job market growth, and other statistics requested from Indiana Main Street and National Main Street.
- 11.
- Program manager participating in “Intermediate” training sessions hosted by Indiana Main Street.
- 12.
- Becomes and stays a concurrent member of the National Main Street Center.
